Description
BirdLife Malta is looking for a curious, resourceful and motivated volunteer with IT skills to join our Conservation Department and help develop technology that supports bird conservation, research and public engagement.
This is a unique opportunity to gain practical IT experience while working alongside conservationists, researchers and fieldworkers. The role combines web development, artificial intelligence, data management, networking, livestreaming and field technology with real-world conservation.
Projects include developing conservation databases and web platforms, supporting a digital wildlife rescue system, expanding live bird and wildlife cameras, digitising historical ornithological records using AI, developing online bird migration and tracking tools, and supporting other IT projects.
The role also offers opportunities to join fieldwork and on-site technology installations.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
This is a volunteering opportunity under the European Solidarity Corps (ESC) scheme. BirdLife Malta will provide you with:
- Accommodation close to our offices in Ta’ Xbiex or in the northern part of the island close to our nature reserves
- Coverage of utilities such as ele
- Reimbursement of the flight and other transport costs (bus, train, metro, visa) to/from Malta up to a certain limit
- €380 monthly allowance
- Private insurance
