The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is hiring a Public Information Officer (Temporary Job Opening) in its Media Outreach and Spokesperson's Office in Geneva. The role leads high-impact social media and digital communications to inform and engage external audiences on human rights issues. This is a temporary position for a minimum of three months, and the application deadline is 2 September 2026.


About the Role

Based in the Media Outreach and Spokesperson's Office and reporting to its Chief, the Public Information Officer develops and produces multimedia content, exercises editorial and political judgement on what OHCHR publishes, and drives strategic, proactive social media outreach across the UN's digital presence.

Your Key Responsibilities

๐Ÿ“ฑ Develop and produce high-impact multimedia content for OHCHR's social media platforms (Facebook, X, LinkedIn and others) to inform and engage external audiences.

๐Ÿ“ Exercise journalistic and political judgement to make timely editorial decisions on what should be published, in different languages.

๐Ÿ“ฃ Plan and initiate strategic, proactive outreach through social media campaigns and collaboration with the UN-wide social media presence.

๐Ÿค Identify and maintain relations and partnerships with key internal and external stakeholders.

๐Ÿ“ˆ Increase OHCHR's following and engagement and strengthen brand awareness among target audiences.

๐Ÿ”Ž Monitor, analyse and undertake social listening, identify trends and opportunities to engage on topical human rights issues, and advise management on responses.

๐Ÿ“Š Monitor and evaluate the results and impact of OHCHR social media content, and report on developments and sentiment.

๐ŸŽ“ Provide guidance, presentations, training and capacity building on the effective use of social media to achieve human rights objectives.

Requirements

๐ŸŽ“ An advanced university degree (Master's or equivalent) in communications, journalism, international relations, political science, public administration or a related field (a first-level degree with two extra years of qualifying experience may be accepted instead).

๐Ÿ’ผ A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in communications, public information, journalism or public relations, including experience managing various social media platforms.
