Your volunteer service can start flexibly from now or latest on November 1, 2026.
The Windrad Wilhelmshaven facility by the GPS has four residential groups, each accommodating 10 to 12 children and young people with disabilities. The aim is to enable them to lead as independent a life as possible. Specialists provide support with personal care, daily and leisure activities, and therapeutic appointments. They also promote personal development and social skills. Your tasks include providing support, personal care and assistance with household duties. You assist the specialists with daily activities and support measures and help the young people develop new skills. You encourage them to participate in activities and events. You accompany them when shopping, going out for meals or taking part in other activities. Personal care includes assistance with personal hygiene and getting dressed and undressed. Household tasks include laundry care, helping to keep the rooms tidy and preparing meals.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
There will be a group of eight international volunteers who will spend a year at GPS and live in three shared apartments. A volunteer coordinator will show you how to spend your free time in and around Wilhelmshaven, including cultural events, theatres, museums, the beach and anything else that interests you. You will all receive a "Deutschlandticket" (public transport ticket), allowing you to explore nearby cities such as Bremen or Hamburg, or travel to other parts of Germany on your days off.
Training during the activity
At your workplace, you will be guided by a qualified and experienced person who will be responsible for helping you settle into your daily work routine. A personal mentor from the Volunteer Services Department will be your main point of contact and stay in regular contact with you. They will provide educational support and be available to answer your questions and address your needs. In addition, you will take part in our educational seminars together with a group of German volunteers and receive German language lessons. At the end of your placement, you will receive a Youthpass certificate.
