Description
We are looking for three volunteers for a 12-month ESC project at Youth Cultural Center Monde in Rovaniemi, Finland. Each volunteer will have a different main role, while all three are part of the same Monde community.
We are looking for young people who are especially interested in one of three areas: 1) events and event production, 2) groups and activities for children and young people, or 3) music and media. One volunteer will mainly focus on each area. Previous experience or specific skills are not required. Motivation and willingness to learn are more important.
All volunteers also take part in shared tasks, such as café work, events and basic upkeep. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own ideas and interests into the activities. The project supports cultural diversity, participation and community, and promotes the European Solidarity Corps among local young people.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Housing is arranged by the project and shared by three volunteers. The apartment has a shared kitchen, living room, bathroom and free Wi-Fi. There are two bedrooms: one small private room and one larger room shared by two volunteers. Volunteers of any gender are welcome, and the apartment may be mixed-gender. Respectful sharing of everyday life and common spaces is expected.
The project covers accommodation, travel, insurance and eligible residence permit costs. Pocket money is paid monthly to a European bank account, and the food allowance is provided on an S-Business card.
Training during the activity
Volunteers work 30–38 hours per week, typically over five days. They receive orientation covering practical matters, their tasks, the working community and Rovaniemi. Learning Finnish is part of the volunteering experience and takes place during working hours.
Throughout the project, volunteers are supported by the project coordinator, work instructors and a mentor. No previous work experience is required, as learning by doing is an important part of the project. Volunteers reflect on their learning with their mentor and are entitled to a Youthpass and an ESC certificate of participation.
Participant profile
We are looking for three motivated young adults who are interested in living abroad, learning new things and taking part in the activities of Youth Cultural Center Monde.
We are particularly interested in applicants who are motivated by event organisation and cultural activities, hobby groups and activities especially with children, or music and media activities such as audio recording, photography and video production. Applicants should indicate in their application which focus area interests them the most and why.
Previous professional experience or specific qualifications are not required. Personal interests, hobbies and skills that could be used in the project are welcome, but it is also perfectly fine to join the project to learn something new.
Volunteers should have enough English skills to manage everyday situations and basic communication at work. Fluent English is not required, and volunteers are not expected to speak Finnish before arriving.
As the volunteers will live and work together, we hope they are open to meeting different people, willing to cooperate and prepared to share everyday life with others. Volunteers should respect equality, diversity, human dignity and the rights of others in accordance with the values of the European Solidarity Corps.
We welcome applications from young people with different backgrounds and life situations. If you have any specific needs that may require additional support or practical arrangements, we encourage you to mention this in your application so that we can discuss how the project can support your participation. You will never be asked to disclose detailed health information in the application. Having specific support needs or fewer opportunities is not a barrier to participating in the project.
We are looking for volunteers only for a long-term ESC project lasting 12 months. Shorter volunteering periods are not available under this project.
