The United Nations is offering an internship located in the Energy, Housing and Land Management Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) in Geneva, Switzerland. The UNECE Energy, Housing and Land Management Division works to promote a sustainable energy development strategy for the ECE region, with the following objectives: sustained access to high quality energy services for all individuals in the ECE region; security of energy supplies in the short, medium and long term; facilitating a transition to a more sustainable energy future and introducing renewable energy sources to reduce health and environmental impacts resulting from the production, transport and use of energy; well-balanced energy network systems across the whole of the ECE region tailored to optimize operating efficiencies and overall regional cooperation; sustained improvements in energy efficiency, in production and use, particularly in countries with economies in transition; and, in the context of post-EU enlargement, the integration of energy restructuring, legal, regulatory and energy pricing reforms, as well as of the social dimension, into energy policy making.

What You Will Do

The intern is expected to contribute to the work of the Division and specifically of its Resource Management Section as follows:

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ To assist in the organisation and servicing of the intergovernmental and expert meetings in the areas covered by the Division, including energy for sustainable development, reducing the environmental footprint of energy, accelerating the deep transformation of the energy sector, facilitating the sustainable management of resources, and devising just energy transition pathways

๐Ÿ“Š To conduct research, data analysis, draft studies and short articles, and contribute to social media campaigns and outreach efforts by preparing promotional content related to a number of the above listed fields

๐Ÿ” To assist the secretariat and its experts in data collection and analysis, including through web search, and the preparation of documentation for the above listed fields

Who Can Apply

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience; however, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship is required. For this internship, studies in energy, sustainable development, economics, international relations or equivalent are required. Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams, and will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship, and knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.

Funding and Visa

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
