Do you want to see how the United Nations works on disarmament, arms control and non-proliferation from the inside? The UN Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) is offering a six-month internship in New York, working directly with the team that advises and assists the Secretary-General on disarmament and related security issues. The intern spends most of their time supporting the Office's Front Office, with part of the role supporting the Regional Disarmament, Information and Outreach Branch.
About the Office
UNODA advises and assists the Secretary-General on disarmament and supports multilateral efforts toward general and complete disarmament under strict and effective international control. This includes support for norm-setting through the General Assembly and its First Committee, the Disarmament Commission and the Conference on Disarmament. UNODA is also mandated to provide objective, impartial and up-to-date information on disarmament to Member States, other UN bodies, research and educational institutions, civil society, the media and the general public.
What You Will Do
Your daily responsibilities depend on your background and may include:
๐ Developing content and managing disarmament stories through information posted on the Office's website and social media channels
๐ Conducting document, media and internet research
๐๏ธ Assisting in drafting and preparing official documents, summaries, talking points, speeches, remarks and web content
๐ค Providing assistance during conferences and meetings, including the First Committee, and preparing meeting reports

Who Can Apply
To qualify for the UN Internship Programme, you must meet one of the following: be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (a second university degree or equivalent, or higher), or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme at bachelor's level or equivalent. No professional work experience is required, but your field of study should be closely related to the work of the internship. A demonstrated interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter are expected. Female candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants who have already served a total of six months as a UN intern, or who are close relatives of an active UN staff member, are not eligible.

Funding
This internship is unpaid. The United Nations does not provide financial remuneration to interns, and all costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsoring institution.
