🔷 Activity Details
Description
The project takes place in Kouvola, Finland, at Ankkapurha Youth Centre. It is designed for two ESC volunteers who will become part of our youth work team.
The main role of the volunteers is to support youth workers in planning, organizing and leading activities for children and young people. Activities include camp schools, youth camps, local youth clubs, school visits and events. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own ideas, skills and culture into the activities and help create new programmes.
The project also includes planning and organizing two special events: a Halloween event with the ESC team and a Christmas event for children and families.
When there are no youth activities or extra help is needed, volunteers may also support the kitchen, maintenance or housekeeping. These tasks are occasional and help volunteers learn how a Finnish youth centre operates.
Volunteers always work guided by or with the staff members.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Accommodation is provided in the Youth Centre’s dormitory. Volunteers share an apartment with other ESC volunteers. The apartment has shared bedrooms, a kitchenette, a living room and a bathroom. Bed linen and towels are included.
Volunteers receive a food allowance for meals. Lunch is provided free at the Youth Centre’s restaurant on working days. Breakfast and dinner may also be available on some days.
In their free time, volunteers may use the sports hall, sauna and campfire area at agreed times.
Work travel is fully covered and takes place by train, bus or carpooling with staff.
Training during the activity
The arrival training is organized by the hosting organisation. If the national arrival training takes place at the time of volunteering Its also open for volunteers in this project
Participant profile
The most important requirement is a genuine interest in working with children and young people. We are looking for volunteers who are motivated by this project, open-minded, eager to learn and willing to work as part of a team. We value initiative, creativity and a positive attitude. Skills in art, music, sports or other creative activities are a bonus, but not required.
Please start your motivation letter with the words: "I want to work at Ankkapurha Youth Centre because..."
Please note: This opportunity is open only to applicants who have not previously completed a long-term ESC volunteering activity (more than 2 months). Applicants must also have their legal residence in the country from which they apply, in accordance with the ESC Programme rules.
