🔷 Activity Details
Description
The volunteering experience takes place on Elba Island, one of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean Sea. Hosted by Elba del Vicino https://elbadelvicino.com/, in the little village of Rio Marina and volunteers will become part of acommunity-based project that combines youth work, social inclusion, environmental awareness and community life. The project offers a unique opportunity to experience island life by caring about the place and the environment supporting activities and life of local children, young people and the wider community. Volunteers will work alongside educators, youth workers, and local staff members in a supportive and international environment.
The project is about maintenance of the place and cleaning of the area (beaches, woods, paths...) and it will be held with another esc team project hosted in the same weeks by Elba del Vicino. During the project there will be artists who are working there to run artistic residency with the community, and it will be interaction with them and their activities.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The volunteers will live in the Elba del Vicino hostel and will share the common areas with other groups living there in the same period. The volunteers will share the rooms only with the ESC volunteers and they’ll have the bathroom in common.
Each day there will be breackfast, lunch and dinner cooked from the kitchen staff. It’s required participation in preparing tables, cleaning and keep common areas clean and tidy.
Rio Marina is a tiny village and the hostel is 10 minutes by foot to the sea and close to places where it’s possibile to hike.
Training during the activity
The volunteers work organized in different teams every working day, about 32 hours per week. Two days are off. Training will be held for supporting the understanding of the field of work.
Two people will lead the volunteers: one is the youth leader who will be living with the group and supporting them during the whole time; one is the coordinator of the project who’s going to give indications and tips.
Volunteers will have group meetings with the youth leader to share how the experience is going on and also individual support whenever necessary.
Participant profile
We are looking for motivated, full of energy volunteers who would like to work to renovate a house bringing ideas and creativity within the manual daily work, take part with local community activities, have creative approach towards all the tasks and possibilities. No special profile needed.
