UNRCPD is part of the United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) and is located in Kathmandu, Nepal. The Regional Centre assists countries in Asia and the Pacific in achieving their peace, security and disarmament goals through the provision of substantive support, the coordination of activities at the subregional, regional and international levels, and the sharing of information on global and regional disarmament initiatives.
In accordance with its mandate, UNRCPD supports countries of the region, upon request, in implementing international agreements aimed at preventing and combating the illicit flows of conventional arms, promoting dialogue and confidence-building on global and regional issues related to arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation, addressing peace and security challenges through the engagement of women and youth, and advancing peace and disarmament education. To support these efforts, the Regional Centre organizes seminars, workshops and training activities.

ποΈ Duties
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background, the office to which they are assigned and the duration of the internship. Duties may include:
π Assisting in drafting and preparing official documents
π Conducting document, legal and internet research
πͺ Assisting in the preparation and servicing of conferences, workshops and meetings
π Assisting with the preparation and maintenance of web content and other communication materials
β Qualifications and Special Skills
π Be enrolled in or have completed a graduate school programme, meaning a second university degree or equivalent or higher, or be enrolled in or have completed the final academic year of a first university degree programme, meaning minimum bachelor's level or equivalent
π A field of study closely related to the type of internship is required, while professional work experience is not required for participation in the programme
π Applicants must indicate which criterion they meet and attach proof to the application, and an official certificate will have to be provided at a later stage

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the Internship Programme, and knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset.

π Work location: Kathmandu, Nepal
β³ Expected duration: 2 to 6 months, with the desired start date September 2026
π The internship is unpaid and intended to be full-time and in person at the Kathmandu duty station, and subject to operational requirements and at the discretion of the hiring manager, part-time, remote or hybrid arrangements may be approved
π The intern will work under the supervision of a designated professional staff member and will adhere to the established working schedule of five days per week, 35 hours, reporting to the Director of UNRCPD
