🇫🇷 ESC Volunteering in France 🎭 Youth and Culture Work at a Community Centre in Normandy 🎨

Do you want to spend a year leading creative projects for young people at a lively cultural centre in Normandy? The Maison des Jeunes et de la Culture (MJC) in Flers is offering an ESC volunteering placement in popular education, where you can create workshops, artistic events and projects while living and working abroad.

The Two Missions

🎭 The MJC proposes two missions. Mission 1, "The Happy and Lively MJC!", is for candidates who are genuinely motivated to learn or improve their French, dedicated to the learning process and able to demonstrate their progress.

🇪🇺 Mission 2, "The European MJC and Beyond", requires a B1 level of French according to the CEFR, and looks for highly autonomous, proactive people able to continuously propose activities and projects. It seeks responsible, organized candidates who can communicate clearly and work as part of a team on a daily basis.

What You'll Do

🎨 Implement a variety of activities with the support of a tutor, a youth worker and the professional team, leading projects and activities for different audiences both inside and outside the MJC.

🎪 Beyond the annual programme already planned, create your own workshops, projects and artistic events, with significant freedom to develop personal initiatives and prepare for your future after the European volunteering experience.

🤝 Work in partnership with French civic service volunteers and collaborate with the other volunteers (4 in total) and their projects.

Training

🗣️ French lessons are provided through the Erasmus+ language platform or personalized classes, and you are supported throughout by a tutor, a youth worker and the professional team of the organization.

Who Can Apply

🌍 Young people within the ESC age range (18 to 30) from all countries covered by the European Solidarity Corps programme.

💪 Volunteers should be autonomous, highly motivated and proactive, able to work without constant supervision, and tolerant, inclusive and respectful. Candidates are encouraged to inform the organisation of any physical or mental health concerns (this will not influence the recruitment decision), as the host is committed to volunteers' well-being and prepares appropriate healthcare support in advance.

🎭 You should be ready to discover the professional environment of a cultural structure dedicated to popular education, and have the courage to live abroad. Volunteering implies a commitment to social causes and a willingness to give of oneself to support others, while also receiving valuable experiences in return; it is not equivalent to an Erasmus study experience, and requires committed people.

Accommodation, Food and Transport

🏠 Hosted volunteers share a flat located a 15-minute walk from the MJC, near minimarkets, bakeries, bars, restaurants and the local library. It is about 20 minutes on foot, 5 minutes by bus or 10 by bike to the MJC, which is next to the train station in the city centre. The apartment has 3 bedrooms, a bathroom, a toilet, a living room and a kitchen.

💶 At the beginning of each month, volunteers receive €480 in total as pocket money for groceries, personal use and local transport outside Flers.

What's Covered

💶 As an ESC project, shared accommodation is provided along with €480 per month for food, personal use and local transport, plus travel reimbursed according to ESC rules, insurance, and French language support.
