About the Position

The GIS Intern supports the sourcing, organization, management and analysis of geospatial datasets to contribute to research and development projects across WorldFish's project countries, generating spatial evidence to inform sustainable aquatic food systems planning, including aquaculture, fisheries, climate resilience and environmental assessments.

What You'll Do

๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ Source, review, process, archive and document relevant spatial datasets in accordance with established protocols and data management standards.

โœ”๏ธ Conduct data quality checks and support validation of spatial datasets from project partners and external sources.

๐Ÿงน Assist in data cleaning, literature review and compilation of geospatial information to support research.

๐Ÿ“Š Support GIS and spatial analysis, including preparation of thematic maps and visual outputs for technical reports, presentations, workshops and communication materials.

๐Ÿ—‚๏ธ Assist in maintaining organized geospatial databases and documenting analytical workflows and outputs, plus other GIS duties.

Who Can Apply

๐ŸŽ“ A Diploma or Degree in GIS, remote sensing, geoinformatics, information technology, geography, aquaculture, fisheries, environmental science or a related field.

๐Ÿ›ฐ๏ธ Basic knowledge and practical experience with GIS software (e.g., QGIS or ArcGIS Pro), and understanding of geospatial concepts including coordinate systems, map projections, raster and vector data models.

๐Ÿ’ป Familiarity with spatial data processing, analysis and map production, experience with spreadsheets and databases, good analytical and attention to detail skills, good English communication, and the ability to work independently.

Desirable: experience using R or Python for geospatial analysis, familiarity with remote sensing and satellite imagery, open-source geospatial data and APIs, interest in aquatic food systems, and experience producing maps and visualizations. This opportunity is open exclusively to India applicants.

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Duration: as soon as possible until 31 December 2026. Interviews are expected in July 2026.

๐Ÿ’ถ A monthly stipend is provided, with close interaction with scientists and technical staff to build technical and professional skills.
