About the Internship

In this laboratory, students engage in theoretical studies that address practical scientific challenges. Specifically, you can participate in theoretical simulations and predictions of spectra spanning the entire electromagnetic spectrum. These simulations are grounded in quantum chemistry methodologies, commonly implemented in software packages such as Gaussian, Cfour, and CP2K, with visualisation of results using tools like VMD, Molden, and Multiwfn.

These methods offer versatile applications across many scientific domains, and the internship gives you the chance to apply them to genuinely exciting research questions.

What You Could Work On

🌍 Investigating chemical reactions of small molecules in Earth's atmosphere and on exoplanets, to elucidate physicochemical conditions in remote environments

📡 Precisely determining the rovibrational properties of small molecules for highly resolved microwave spectroscopy, which often facilitates the discovery of novel species in interstellar environments

🔬 Conducting conformational analysis of drugs, enabling the identification of specific molecules, their conformers, and polymorphism within forensic materials, a vital contribution to forensic investigations

Who Can Apply

This internship is for students in Chemistry and Chemical Engineering who have completed at least two years of study.

⚛️ At least some knowledge of quantum chemistry and spectroscopy is necessary

💻 Skills with quantum chemistry program packages are an advantage, but are not obligatory

🗣️ Good English (B1, B2)

🎙️ An interview can be required

Work Details

📍 Location: Czech Republic (on-site, research and development environment)

⏳ Duration: 8 weeks, within 7 September 2026 to 18 December 2026 (latest possible start date 26 October 2026)

🕗 Working hours: 40 per week, 8 per day

💶 Gross pay: 14,000 CZK per month

Living and Lodging

🏠 IAESTE provides accommodation in a student dormitory, where interns are housed in shared double rooms with same-sex roommates. If an intern prefers a single room, they are responsible for arranging alternative accommodation independently.

💶 Estimated cost of lodging: around 5,500 CZK per month, with an estimated total cost of living, including lodging, of around 12,000 CZK per month
