The Netherlands Network for Human Rights Research (NNHRR) is seeking one full-time intern to assist with the academic coordination and administration of the network and its blog, Human Rights Here, based at the Asser Institute in The Hague. It's a chance to gain hands-on experience at the intersection of academic research and public engagement.

Located in the heart of The Hague, the Asser Institute is a leading inter-university research centre in international and European law, conducting independent policy-oriented research, providing training and education, organising seminars and conferences, and running its own publishing house, Asser Press. The NNHRR brings together human rights researchers from universities and research institutes across the Netherlands, and Human Rights Here is its academic blog, publishing timely, accessible contributions on human rights law and policy.


Key Responsibilities

NNHRR coordination & administration (assisting Stephanie Triefus):

๐Ÿ“ Drafting and editing news items, social media posts, newsletters and correspondence

๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ Maintaining the Network's website

๐Ÿ—‚๏ธ Organising and taking minutes of Steering Committee meetings

๐Ÿ“‹ Processing membership applications and maintaining member lists

Human Rights Here blog (assisting the editorial team):

โœ๏ธ Editing and contributing blog posts and managing their publication on the blog website

๐Ÿ“จ Corresponding with authors and editors throughout the submission and editing process

๐Ÿ“ฃ Promoting the solicitation and dissemination of blog posts via social media

๐Ÿงญ Contributing to the strategic direction of the blog

๐Ÿ”ฌ Where time permits, assisting with research tasks in business and human rights (research is secondary to the administrative tasks)


Profile

๐ŸŽ“ Enrolled in, or recently graduated from, a bachelor's or master's programme in international law

โš–๏ธ A demonstrated interest in human rights law

๐Ÿ‡ฌ๐Ÿ‡ง Fluent in written and spoken English

โœ๏ธ Excellent writing and editing skills, with an eye for accuracy and consistency

๐Ÿ—‚๏ธ Highly organised, efficient and attentive to detail

๐Ÿค A collaborative, supportive and flexible approach to teamwork

๐Ÿ˜„ Outstanding communication skills and a good sense of humour


Who Can Apply

๐ŸŽ“ Internships at Asser are for students only: you must be registered as a student at a university or school

๐Ÿ›‚ You must be eligible to live and work in the Netherlands (EU citizenship or a student visa from a Dutch university)

๐Ÿ“… Recent bachelor's and master's graduates may apply only within the first year of graduation

๐Ÿšซ Asser cannot hire students without EU citizenship unless they already hold a Dutch residency and work permit


The Details

๐Ÿ“ Location: The Hague, Netherlands (on-site; this is not a remote opportunity)

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Start date: Envisaged 14 August 2026

โณ Duration: 6 months, with possible extension to 9 months

๐Ÿ•’ Commitment: 38 hours per week (study commitments are taken into account in task allocation)

๐Ÿ’ถ Compensation: A stipend of โ‚ฌ736 gross per month
