DESCRIPTION

Peuples Solidaires Jura operates as part of ActionAid France - pour peuples solidaires. Our organization is committed to promoting solidarity-based development and raising awareness about the causes of inequalities between countries in the Global North and the Global South. We actively engage in popular education for development and support struggles for fundamental human rights, while fostering solidarity with partners in the Global South, particularly in Togo, Burkina Faso and Senegal. Our association focuses on key issues related to ActionAid France’s areas of expertise: food sovereignty, responsible textile consumption, climate justice, and international women’s rights. Our team includes one employee who coordinates the organization and about ten active members. Each year, we welcome around four volunteers (from France, Burkina Faso, Togo, and now from across Europe), with whom we work in schools, community centers, and with diverse audiences.

ACCOMMODATION, FOOD AND TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS

You will share an apartment with another young international volunteer, your room can be locked with a key. You'll have access to the internet. The apartment is a 30-minute walk from the office. Lons-le-Saunier is a small town located in a rural area, where access to public transport is limited. A bicycle can be provided, and car-sharing may also be arranged if needed. There are bus and train stations in the town center, allowing travel to major cities, such as Besançon, Lyon, and Paris.

TRAINING DURING THE ACTIVITY

You will benefit from weekly French classes and have access to online courses through the EU Academy website. You will also attend two ESC seminars with volunteers from all over France. Depending on your interests and needs, we will provide the necessary training (e.g. facilitation tools, communication, or other relevant topics) to help you succeed in your mission.

PARTICIPANT PROFILE

The role of volunteers is to participate in and support awareness-raising activities on global citizenship and international solidarity (education à la citoyenneté et à la solidarité internationale - ECSI) among young people. You will discover and experiment with educational, game-based, and participatory tools used in awareness-raising activities, and you will also contribute to the design and facilitation of workshops for school groups and other audiences. To encourage cultural exchange, you will be invited to take part in organizing events in the framework of Solidarity Festival (Festival des Solidarités) and ALIMENTERRE Festival (October/ Novembre 2026). In this context, you may help organize activities connected to your culture of origin. To promote youth engagement, European mobility and your experience among young people, you will be encouraged to implement various initiatives based on your skills, creativity, and ideas. Depending on your interests and expectations, other tasks may be proposed, such as developing and promoting our documentary resources; supporting international activities by helping to establish contacts with new partners (possibly from your country); assisting with administrative tasks, etc… It is important to note that this volunteer mission includes two complementary aspects: the more fun part involving interaction with the public (school activities, event organization, etc.), and a more structured part that involves office work in a team to prepare activities, tools, training, meeting partners, etc. Before applying, you must be sure you can handle both sides of the mission. No specific skills are required. However, we expect that you have an interest in the topics that we are working on, as well as in civic engagement. We are looking for a dynamic and proactive person, able to work in an international team and to take initiative. You should be ready to improve your spoken French, as most members of the organization cannot communicate in other languages.
