๐ŸŒ Google Summer of Code 2026 ๐Ÿ’ป GSoC 2026 ๐Ÿ’ฐ Paid Open Source Programme ๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ Remote, All Countries ๐ŸŒ

Google Summer of Code (GSoC) 2026 is now open for contributor registrations โ€” and the deadline is 31 March 2026. This flagship global programme by Google brings new contributors into open source software development, offering a paid stipend of $750 to $6,600 USD for a 12+ week remote project completed under the mentorship of experienced developers from 185 leading open source organisations. Open to all nationalities, with no degree requirement โ€” just programming knowledge and commitment. Apply immediately.

๐ŸŒ Did You Know? Since its launch in 2005, Google Summer of Code has brought together more than 22,000 contributors from over 123 countries โ€” producing more than 48 million lines of open source code across 1,000+ organisations. Many GSoC alumni have gone on to become core maintainers of some of the world's most widely used software projects, and several have founded successful tech companies directly inspired by their GSoC experience.

What Will You Do?

๐Ÿ’ป Open Source Project Work: Complete a substantive 12+ week programming project with a participating open source organisation โ€” contributing real, usable code to projects used by millions of people worldwide.
๐Ÿงญ Mentorship: Work one-on-one with experienced developers who guide you through the project, provide code reviews, and support your technical and professional growth throughout the programme.
๐Ÿค Community Engagement: Engage directly with open source communities โ€” attending meetings, participating in discussions, and building relationships with developers from leading global organisations.
๐Ÿง  Focus Areas in 2026: This year's participating organisations have a strong focus on security, machine learning, AI, development tools, data, and end-user applications โ€” with 185 organisations spanning virtually every area of software development.
๐ŸŒ Did You Know? Open source software now powers a staggering proportion of the world's digital infrastructure โ€” from the Linux kernel running on 96% of the world's top web servers, to the Apache and Nginx servers handling the majority of internet traffic, to the Python libraries underpinning most of the world's AI and machine learning research. Contributing to open source through a programme like GSoC is one of the fastest ways to build a globally recognised developer portfolio.
