French Guiana — a French overseas territory nestled in the heart of the Amazon rainforest on the northeast coast of South America — is the extraordinary setting for this short but deeply immersive ESC volunteering opportunity. Peupl'en Harmonie is looking for an adventurous, open-minded volunteer to join a solidarity trip, supporting the team in logistics, youth supervision, and community activities, while experiencing life in one of the world's most biodiverse and culturally unique regions. 🌍 Did You Know? French Guiana is one of the most biodiverse places on Earth — over 90% of its territory is covered by pristine Amazonian rainforest, home to jaguars, tapirs, harpy eagles, and thousands of plant and insect species found nowhere else. Despite being an official territory of France and part of the European Union, it sits on the South American continent, making it one of the most geographically extraordinary regions in the world.
What Will You Do?
🗂️ Support the team in the logistical organisation of the solidarity immersion trip
🧒 Help supervise young participants during solidarity activities and community experiences
🌱 Contribute to environmental awareness activities and solidarity initiatives serving local communities
🌍 Participate in intercultural exchanges and community life, discovering the diverse cultures of French Guiana
🏕️ Take part in immersive nature experiences — including sleeping in hammocks during certain stages of the stay
🤝 Help run activities and contribute actively to the day-to-day life of the solidarity programme
🌍 Did You Know? French Guiana is home to over a dozen distinct indigenous peoples, as well as Maroon communities — descendants of escaped enslaved Africans who formed free settlements in the rainforest centuries ago and preserved their rich cultural traditions to this day. The territory is a living mosaic of Amazonian indigenous, African, Caribbean, European, and Asian cultures unlike anywhere else in the world.
Who Can Apply?
🎂 Aged 18–30 and residing in one of the eligible ESC countries
🌿 Motivated to discover French Guiana and its Amazonian environment
🦟 Not afraid of insects, animals, and natural conditions — this is a genuine rainforest experience
🏕️ Comfortable with a simple, communal lifestyle including the possibility of sleeping in a hammock
🌍 Curious, open-minded, and genuinely interested in cultural diversity and intercultural exchange
🤝 Able to live and work in a community, sharing daily tasks with others
⚡ Flexible and adaptable in the face of unforeseen events and changing field conditions
💚 Sensitive to environmental and solidarity issues — respectful of local cultures and the natural world
✅ No specific skills required — motivation, open-mindedness, and a genuine desire to get involved are what matter most
Accommodation, Food & Travel
🏠 Welcomed by a host family in Cayenne — own private room, located just 5 minutes' walk from the association
🏕️ During the solidarity trip itself, volunteers will sleep in hammocks as part of the immersive experience
🍽️ Food money provided for self-sufficient daily meals; meals provided during the solidarity trip stay
🚌 Public transport available when needed; all travel related to the mission covered in full
✈️ International travel costs covered in line with ESC programme rules
Training & Learning
🌿 Training on reception and mobility in French Guiana provided upon arrival
🌱 Immersive learning through direct participation in solidarity activities, environmental initiatives, and community life
