๐ฎ๐ช ESC Volunteering in Ireland ๐ฟ Climate Action & Communications Volunteer ๐ Environment, Youth & Civic Engagement, Leitrim ๐ฎ๐ช
On the shores of a lake in the tranquil northwest of Ireland, this urgent European Solidarity Corps opportunity invites environmentally passionate volunteers to join a unique climate action project in rural County Leitrim. Working from a lakeside community centre with a small international team, you'll help animate climate action through schools programmes, digital platforms, communications, and civic engagement โ while experiencing the warmth of Irish rural culture firsthand. Due to the project timeline, only EU residents who do not require a visa are eligible for this placement.
๐ Did You Know? County Leitrim is one of Ireland's least populated and most naturally beautiful counties โ a landscape of glacial lakes, drumlin hills, and ancient river valleys in the northwest of the island. Ballinaglera is a tiny village nestled on the shores of Lough Allen, Ireland's highest and most northerly of the River Shannon lakes โ a place of extraordinary tranquillity and natural character.
What Will You Do?
๐ฑ Animate and support climate action locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally through schools programmes and civic engagement initiatives
๐ซ Help plan and prepare an Erasmus+ project with local schools โ volunteers will play a central role in this upcoming programme
๐ Facilitate climate dialogue initiatives with young people and community partners
๐ป Manage and contribute to digital platforms, including websites, blogs, and social media, to disseminate the project's work
๐ Write blog posts, create communications content, and support digital outreach campaigns
๐ Participate in Irish cultural events and community life throughout the project period
๐ค Work as part of an international volunteer team based at the community centre in Ballinaglera
๐ Did You Know? Ireland has set one of Europe's most ambitious climate targets โ committing to a 51% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 and net zero by 2050. Rural communities are at the forefront of this transition, facing both unique challenges and extraordinary opportunities in areas like renewable energy, land use, and climate education โ making grassroots projects like this one in Leitrim a vital part of Ireland's climate future.
