🌍 Did You Know? What Will You Do?
🦋 Participate in daily biodiversity walks, documenting local flora and fauna through observations and photo, video, and audio recordings
🥾 Explore new trails together with community members to expand biodiversity mapping efforts
💻 Process and organise biodiversity data — classifying records and uploading them to a shared digital system using identification tools for preliminary species identification
📱 Create social media content with local youth showcasing community activities, biodiversity findings, and cultural traditions
🗣️ Participate in dialogue circles where community members, the Despierta team, and volunteers exchange experiences and discuss environmental practices
🎓 Support the preparation and delivery of community workshops focused on strengthening local organisation and skills
🌱 Assist with environmental education for children and young people in local schools
🌍 Did You Know? Citizen science — where everyday people contribute to scientific data collection — has become one of the most powerful tools in global biodiversity monitoring. Platforms like iNaturalist have received over 200 million observations worldwide, with community-based programmes like this one in Ecuador playing a vital role in filling data gaps in some of the world's most species-rich regions.
Who Can Apply?
🎂 Aged 18 to 35 and residing in an EU Member State or an associated non-EU country
✅ Must have completed the mandatory face-to-face ESC Humanitarian Aid Volunteering training before starting the placement
📅 Available for the full six-month volunteering period
🌿 Passionate about nature, biodiversity, ecology, biology, botany, or agroecology — or eager to learn
📸 Some knowledge or willingness to learn photography, video recording, and editing
📱 Comfortable with social media content creation
💪 Good physical condition — daily outdoor walks and fieldwork are a core part of this role
🤝 Proactive, creative, communicative, and open to intercultural exchange and community involvement
🌍 Motivated to engage internationally and gain real insight into humanitarian and conservation work
Accommodation, Food & Travel
🏠 Dedicated volunteer house with individual and shared rooms (up to 6 volunteers), full bathroom, dining room, kitchen, and rest area
🛒 Access to community shops to buy groceries — volunteers cook for themselves daily
🚌 Travel to work by foot, local bus, or community car

Training & Learning
💻 Pre-departure online training before leaving for Ecuador

📋 Mid-term evaluation training after 3 months into the placement
🎓 Final evaluation before departure
