The Crossroads is a community initiative promoting ecological living, sustainability, and creative cooperation in Greeceโs post-coal region of Arcadia. By transforming spaces through permaculture, eco-construction, and community building, it fosters an inclusive environment where people connect with nature, learn new skills, and inspire positive change.
๐ About the Project
โCoCreating EcoCommunity Spaces โ ESC Long-Term Volunteering Editionโ invites two young volunteers to join The Crossroads eco-community in Megalopoli, Greece. Together, youโll help transform an Urban Villa and eco-village land into sustainable, creative, and inclusive living environments. ๐ฑ
Youโll participate in hands-on, practical activities such as:
๐ก Permaculture gardening and eco-farming
๐งฑ Natural building and eco-construction projects
๐ณ Community cooking in an outdoor kitchen
โป๏ธ Upcycling and reuse of materials for sustainable living
๐ป Sociocracy & Non-Violent Communication practices for collaboration and self-awareness
Experience rural community life while contributing to the Green Transition in Greeceโs post-coal region of Megalopoli.

๐ Accommodation, Food & Transport
- ๐ก Stay inย The Crossroads Urban Villaย โ shared or private rooms depending on availability
- ๐ฅย Vegetarian mealsย prepared together with local and garden products

๐ Learning & Development
Volunteers will receive ongoing mentorship and training through:
๐ฑ Hands-on permaculture and natural building workshops
๐ง Sessions on eco-construction, upcycling, and food preservation
๐ฌ Weekly reflection circles using sociocracy and non-violent communication tools
๐ค Guidance in project planning, teamwork, and intercultural learning
Learn by doing, grow through sharing, and gain a holistic understanding of sustainable community life. ๐
๐ฅ Participant Profile
Weโre looking for two motivated volunteers (18โ30 years old) ready to live and learn in an eco-community.
Ideal volunteers are:
- ๐ฟ Curious and eager to experienceย sustainability and ecological practices
- ๐ช Ready to engage inย outdoor, hands-on work
- ๐ฌ Open to teamwork, creativity, and simple living
- ๐ก Interested inย permaculture, gardening, eco-building, upcycling, or renewable energy
- ๐ค Open-minded and respectful toward community life and collective learning
No prior experience required โ just motivation and a willingness to learn by doing!
