Description

Within the Green Minds Together project, BRAVO hosts volunteers in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. The project promotes refugee inclusion, supports marginalised groups and encourages education, social integration and intercultural exchange. Volunteers contribute to community programmes by organising non-formal learning activities for young migrants, unaccompanied minors and disadvantaged youth, focusing on language learning, digital literacy, life skills, communication and psychosocial support. They also promote youth participation, EU values and social responsibility through community initiatives and intergenerational activities supporting older people. Environmental actions, including gardening, upcycling and awareness campaigns, encourage sustainable lifestyles and youth engagement. Volunteers further support digital inclusion through mentoring, storytelling, CV workshops and multimedia content creation. Activities are developed according to community needs and volunteers’ skills.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

BRAVO provides accommodation in Sarajevo for the full 360-day period. Volunteers have private rooms in shared housing with other ESC Humanitarian Aid volunteers, sharing common areas. Food and local transport to workplaces and activity venues are supported by the host organisation. Volunteers receive pocket money under the ESC Humanitarian Aid contract. International travel, insurance and visa/residence permit arrangements are coordinated by BRAVO and the sending organisation. ESC insurance covers the entire placement.

Training during the activity

Volunteers receive pre-departure training to prepare them for their placement, covering cultural awareness, humanitarian principles, safety and safeguarding, and practical expectations. Upon arrival, a 3-day on-arrival training provides local orientation, cultural context, safety protocols and information on local support structures. Throughout the placement, volunteers are supported by a hosting mentor, regular check-ins and access to psychosocial support if needed. Local emergency protocols and safeguarding policies apply throughout the placement.

Participant profile

We are looking for volunteers who are empathetic, open-minded, creative, and motivated to support refugees, migrants, young people, and elderly people. Flexibility, teamwork, and good communication skills are essential, along with an interest in social inclusion, non-formal education, digital literacy, and environmental activities. Experience in working with vulnerable groups, workshop facilitation, or creating digital content is an advantage. If you are eager to learn, share your skills, and make a positive impact in local communities, we welcome your application!
