An Individual Volunteering activity (short 21-59 days, optional to extend for long term for 2-5 months) designed to enable volunteers to develop their personal and professional skills by working on personal solidarity projects, supporting artist residence and Sansusī organisation.

Sansusī is a an organisation focused in culture and arts field that manages mobility opportunities for young people and promotes volunteering, values-based education, intercultural learning and non-formal education in the local community. We are located in Latvia, main project activity takes place 3 km away from a village called Aknīste (that is 150 km = 2 hours away from Riga, capital of Latvia) and sometimes in Riga. Nearest shop 5 km!

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

During your ESC project, your accommodation, food and transport is fully covered by the program costs. You live in our artist residence center Suseja (3km from Akniste village, 150km from Riga). Might be you travel to Riga by bus couple of times to meet our team in Riga, make an event or similar. You will have shared bedroom with another volunteer, sometimes it's an option to have individual bedroom but no guarantees. Place is remote, little amount of people around, lot of personal space and time.

We encourage green travel, sustainable & vegan meals whenever possible and cooking together.

Training during the activity

Usually you get pre-departure training from your support NGO in your own country. We give on-arrival training when you arrive. You get mentor and project leader as your support system. For any specific tasks we try to find people to support your training and skill development - usually our volunteers living in Riga. You get official lessons for Latvian language in ESC online system EU academy. We provide access to some online courses in field of music & arts

Participant profile

Volunteers from any ESC program country:

+ the age from 18 to 30 years (you can turn 31 during volunteering time, you have to be 18 when you arrive)

+ motivation to learn, initiate, and get involved in the activities of Sansusi

+ education, experience or high level interest in the field of arts and culture (because we are arts and cultural organisation so main topics involve this theme)

+ optional local volunteering experience in other organisations

+ various background of life, interests, income level

+ interest in being in a rural area in Latvia

+ want to work on your own projects

+ You are ok to live in country side alone and together with other people. There are not many other people in general
