Where the Martens Centre Comes From
The Centre was established in 2007. Although a young organisation, it shares the same spirit as the European founding fathers: like Konrad Adenauer, Robert Schuman or Alcide De Gasperi, it envisages Europe as the biggest, most ambitious democratic project and wants to make its contribution to it.
Through its work, the legacy of its founder lives on: Wilfried Martens, the European People's Party's long-standing President and former Prime Minister of Belgium, described by the Centre as a visionary, yet pragmatic and responsible pro-European, as well as a freedom champion.
Where the Martens Centre Is Going
As a political think tank, the Martens Centre is a full part of the European policy-making ecosystem. Its mission is to offer decision makers and opinion leaders assistance in formulating new and effective policy options. These are meant to help the European Union become:
๐ A strong global player
๐ค A reliable transatlantic ally
