🇬🇷 ESC Volunteering in Greece 🤝 Supporting Refugees and Migrants With Education and Wellbeing 📚

Description

Open Cultural Center was established in 2016 in response to the European refugee crisis and now manages cultural centers and residential programs for migrants and refugees in Spain and Greece.

Main tasks for the volunteers:

Teaching for kids, youth or adults: teaching English, French, German and/or Greek basic literacy to adult and/or minors.

Women space: organizing and implementing recreational/well-being activities for women and girls.

Monitoring and Evaluation: administrative work for monitoring and evaluating our organization, in collaboration with the correspondent OCC manager.

Communications: Use and editing of communications media via our communications equipment, administration of social media accounts, promotional campaigns, etc.

Bike Space: technical support and administrative work in our bike rental service.

Computer/IT Classes: teaching and promoting basic digital literacy skills i.e. use of Microsoft Office, setting up and email, etc to our beneficiaries’ community.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Travel costs: Up to the limits established in the Erasmus+ Guide distance calculator from the volunteer’s region of residency to our center, and back.

Accommodation: Provided next to our activities center, in Polykastro, Greece with other volunteers. Houses are fully equipped (kitchen, bathrooms, washing machine, etc.). Note: be ready to share your bedroom with other volunteers of the same gender.

Allowance: 270€/month.

Insurance: Henner

Language courses: Online but also in person, according to availability.

Holidays: two days/month.

Training during the activity

Participants in the specific project enjoy the opportunity to enrich their knowledge around contemporary social and economic challenges, through their cooperation with disadvantaged social groups, while at the same time advancing their professional skills and overall competencies through the services that they need to plan, provide and oversee to the beneficiaries community. Furthermore, socializing at a multicultural level promotes the E.U. idelas of solidarity and tolerance and adds overall fun to the experience.

Participant profile

Good command of English or Greek. Other languages are a plus (German, French, Arabic, Dari, Sorani, etc.).

Experience with teaching and/or working with refugees is preferred.

Being easy-going and eager to work in an intercultural, autonomous environment.

Being motivated, proactive, open-minded, creative and self-reliant.

Available for a 2-month period starting early October

Volunteer requirements established by ESC program

Candidates must be between 18 and 30 years old (preferably between 23 and 30).

To have a legal residence permit in an EU country
