Description
The Crossroads is looking for 3 long-term volunteers to join our eco-community in Megalopoli, Greece, for 6 months. You will live and learn between our communal Urban Villa and the land across the street, where we are developing a low-impact eco-village and learning space. Activities include transforming reused containers into functional community spaces, natural and circular building, repair and upcycling, woodwork, permaculture, regenerative gardening, food processing and our Soul Food Kitchen. You will also take part in everyday community living, shared responsibilities, creative activities and local engagement, while exploring rural regeneration in a region undergoing a major green transition. No previous experience is required, we are looking for curious people ready to learn, contribute and get their hands dirty!

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Volunteers will be hosted in The Crossroads Urban Villa, an urban eco-community in the town of Megalopoli. They will stay in shared or private rooms depending on availability, with access to a common kitchen, bathrooms, garden and communal living spaces. Meals are vegetarian, prepared together using local and garden products. Heating is by wood stove and solar panels provide warm water. Activities take place both at the Villa and on the nearby eco-village land. Megalopoli is easily reached by bus from Athens and local transport for project needs is organized by the hosting team.
Training during the activity
Volunteers will learn mainly through hands-on practice, mentoring and peer learning. Training will include natural and circular building, basic woodwork and repair, upcycling, permaculture and regenerative gardening, food processing, composting and sustainable resource use. Volunteers will also develop skills in community living, teamwork, shared decision-making, sociocracy and non-violent communication. Learning will be supported through regular reflection, mentoring and Youthpass.
Participant profile
We are looking for three motivated young people aged 18-30 who want to spend six months experiencing and contributing to community life, sustainability and hands-on ecological work. No previous experience is required. Curiosity, openness, responsibility and a willingness to learn by doing are more important.
Ideal volunteers enjoy teamwork, outdoor activities and practical work and are ready to get their hands dirty. They should be willing to adapt to simple living conditions, share everyday responsibilities such as cooking and cleaning, and participate actively in the rhythm of the community.
An interest in circular and natural building, container transformation, woodwork, repair and upcycling, permaculture, regenerative gardening, food processing, cooking, rural regeneration, arts or communication is especially welcome. Volunteers do not need to have these skills already; the project is also a place to learn them.
Because six months of community living can be both rewarding and challenging, we are looking for people who are willing to communicate openly, respect different needs and backgrounds, and work through difficulties together. Volunteers will have opportunities to practise tools such as sociocracy, non-violent communication and collective decision-making.
We especially value people who bring initiative and creativity and would like, over time, to develop their own ideas or small personal projects within The Crossroads.
The Crossroads welcomes people from diverse backgrounds and particularly encourages applications from young people with fewer opportunities. We are looking for volunteers who genuinely want to explore a more sustainable, collaborative and mindful way of living while contributing to the development of our eco-village and to the wider rural and Green Transition of Megalopoli.
Above all, we are looking for people who understand that this is not a holiday or simply a place to stay abroad, but a six-month commitment to learn, contribute, share responsibility and become part of a living community.
