🇵🇹 ESC Volunteering in Portugal 👵 Inclusion and Diversity in Old Age at an Elderly Centre 🤝

Description

The Associação de Promoção Social, Cultural e Desportiva de Fornos de Algodres (APSCDFA) is an organization that has several sectors of activity and in general works for or with people with disabilities, the elderly, the unemployed and young people.

Two volunteers will work in center for elderly where they can create various workshops in order to create participation opportunities for people. Assist people during the activities. Assist workers of the centre in various activities. Occasionally there is also the possibility to be personal assistant for elderly - helping to move around, eat etc.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

LOGISTICAL ISSUES Accommodation - Volunteers will be accommodated at Sta. Teresa Residence. This accommodation consists of a building with 2 floors, where the 1st floor is a nursing home and the 0th floor is a temporary accommodation for people with special needs. Volunteers will be accommodated on the 0th floor, where they will have an exclusive kitchen/living room for volunteers. Volunteers will also have exclusive rooms, the type being a double room (2 single beds). Meals will be served at the accomodation or work place. The volunteers will have: insurance and monthly pocket money.

Training during the activity

Training is directly related to the skills and knowledge necessary for a particular job. APSCDFA will take care of Orientation training (first days after arrival) and provides a Portuguese language course. You are obliged to attend training organized by the National Agency. A volunteer can participate in potential training sessions to acquire new skills useful for future life and job organized by APSCDFA. At the end, a participant receives the Youthpass certificate.

Participant profile

INCLUSION AND DIVERSITY IN OLD AGE targets youth older between 18 and 30 who are interested in the theme of inclusion and diversity, who have the need for more knowledge and improving their skills and competences to be more active in the field of inclusion and diversity, and who are ready to transfer the knowledge gained in this project to the youth work of their community.
