Description

Join our autumn volunteering team at Nature Community, a rural eco-community in Bavaria near the Czech border, where people live, learn, and work together in a spirit of cooperation, sustainability, and shared responsibility. This autumn, our main focus will be the ecological renovation of our seminar house. Together, we will remove old wall tiles, prepare surfaces, and apply natural clay plaster to give the rooms a new finish. If you are curious about natural building materials and would like to learn how to work with clay plaster, this project offers plenty of hands-on experience. No previous experience is needed — just a willingness to learn and get your hands dirty! There will also be opportunities to support our vegan community kitchen and occasionally help with smaller outdoor tasks. Alongside practical work, you will experience shared meals, group reflection, and the everyday life of our community.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Nature Community is located in a remote rural area of Bavaria, surrounded by nature and away from city infrastructure. Accommodation will be arranged in shared rooms. Meals are vegan and organic and will be prepared partly together with the community and partly within the volunteer group. Travel costs will be reimbursed according to ESC rules upon presentation of tickets. Please keep all original travel documents and bring them with you.

Training during the activity

The main learning opportunity will be working with natural clay plaster, from preparing wall surfaces to applying and finishing the plaster. With guidance, you gain practical experience in ecological renovation and learn to use the tools needed for the work. Volunteers supporting the kitchen gain experience preparing vegan meals for a larger group. Experienced community members support the team throughout the project. Sharing circles, deep listening, reflection sessions, and teamwork offer opportunities to develop communication skills, navigate differences, and practise shared responsibility.

Participant profile

We welcome motivated young people aged 18–30 who are interested in community life, ecological renovation, and practical learning. You do not need previous building experience, but you should be willing to take part in physical work and engage with the clay plaster project as the team's main shared task. We are looking for people who bring curiosity, reliability, and respect for others, and who are ready to live closely together and take part in a shared daily rhythm. Please apply with the intention of committing to the full project period. We aim to maintain a safe environment, free from alcohol or substance intoxication, throughout the volunteering experience.
