At Youth Works Hub, we reviewed this programme in detail so you can see exactly how it works before you apply. The Frontier Fellowship is a free, 12-week, placement-first programme that trains women as AI Deployment Consultants and places them directly into roles in UK small and medium-sized businesses. No degree is required and no prior tech experience is needed. What it asks for is the ability to think, learn fast, and work in a team. It is a government-backed, Innovate UK-funded programme, delivered by Girls Talk Corporation and Enterprise4all under the Frontier Training brand.
Why This Programme Exists
๐บ The programme opens with a clear mission: half a million women are missing from UK tech, and the Frontier Fellowship is built as a route to fix that.
๐งญ It is designed for women who have been locked out of tech, not because they lack ability, but because existing routes were never built for them.
The 12-Week Structure
The Fellowship is not a classroom course. It is a structured, employer-validated programme that takes you from zero tech experience to a paid role as an AI Deployment Consultant in 12 weeks. It runs in three phases.
๐ ๏ธ Phase 1 (Weeks 1โ4) โ Training: Learn to use the AI tools businesses are actually using right now, including Claude, Copilot and ChatGPT. You build workflows, map business processes, and learn how to walk into an organisation, identify where AI can help, and design a solution. Every session is practical; nothing is theoretical.
๐ผ Phase 2 (Weeks 5โ8) โ Live SME Placement: Join a team of four or five Fellows and deliver a real AI project for a real UK business. Not a simulation, not a case study, but a defined scope, a named client, weekly milestones and a signed deliverable at the end. This is the work that gets you hired.
๐ฏ Phase 3 (Weeks 9โ12) โ Career Support: Interview coaching, CV preparation, confidence-building, and direct introductions to employers. You get Insight Days inside blue-chip anchor employers, plus six months of continued support through the Frontier Fellowship alumni network after you graduate.
๐ Everyone who completes the Fellowship walks away with a portfolio of real AI workflows, a four-week live project on their CV, and direct connections to employers actively hiring.

๐ฉ A woman aged 18 or over.
๐ Based in London or the North West of England.
๐ Currently unemployed, looking to return to work, or in a job with too few hours or no way forward.
๐ Not in full-time education.
โ You do not need a degree, a background in technology, or any prior experience with AI tools.

The Selection Process
The process is selective because your cohort matters โ you will be working in a team on a live project with a real business depending on you. It has three steps and takes around two weeks from application to decision.
๐ Apply: A short online form. Tell them who you are, why you want this, and one thing about yourself that would not be obvious from your application. No CV required.
๐ง 10-minute assessment: Eight quick scenarios sent to you automatically after you apply. No revision needed โ they want to understand how you think. It takes around ten minutes.
๐๏ธ Case study: A 45-minute case study with one of the team. You receive a short briefing document 90 minutes before. No presentation to prepare and no technical knowledge required.
If You Are Offered a Place
๐ You will be allocated to one of two cohorts starting in October or November 2026. Before your start date, the team confirms your learning platform access.
๐ป If you need equipment or internet access to take part, support is available โ you just flag it when you apply.
๐๏ธ Places are limited to 250 across the two cohorts, and applications opened in August 2026, so early application matters.
For Businesses: Host a Deployment Team
๐ข SMEs can host a team of four to five trained AI Deployment Consultants for a four-week project at no cost. Teams arrive with a defined scope, work to weekly milestones, and hand over a working AI workflow the business can run independently.
๐ท The same depth of work would cost between ยฃ25,000 and ยฃ85,000 on the open consultancy market; during the placement it costs the host nothing.
๐๏ธ There are eight proven archetypes across four business functions โ Sales (pipeline automation, proposal and quote generation), Finance & Ops (month-end reporting, process documentation and SOPs), HR and People (recruitment workflow, onboarding and knowledge base), and Marketing (content engine setup, customer research synthesis) โ or a business can pitch its own project at the matching event.
๐ It works in three stages: register interest (business, problem and a 10-minute assessment), attend the matching event where SMEs pitch projects live and teams are matched by fit, then four weeks of delivery with a scope document, a named project lead on the host side, weekly milestones and a signed-off deliverable at week four. A host needs a named project lead available at least four hours a week, access to relevant systems and data, and a working environment (on-site, remote or hybrid).
Partner With Frontier
๐ค As a government-backed, Innovate UK-funded programme, Frontier is inviting businesses to join as anchor employers. Corporate partners can host a half-day Insight Day, provide mentors, connect Frontier to SMEs in their supply chain, take part as a deployment partner on a live AI project, or send subject experts to deliver guest sessions on AI, human skills, AI safety, governance and applied defence.
