The United Nations is offering an internship located in the Outreach Division of the Department of Global Communications, in the Sustainable Development and Climate Section. The Sustainable Development and Climate Section has a mandate to promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the Climate Action Agenda that guide the UN's work to boost economic prosperity and social well-being while protecting the environment.
What You Will Do
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual's background and the internship period. The selected intern may perform some of the following functions:
๐ Tracking, researching and analyzing information on topics related to climate change and sustainable development, gathering information from diverse sources and helping assess news value and other potential impact
๐ฐ Drafting and compiling a specific type (print, broadcast, social media and others) of information products for target audiences
๐ท Conducting photo and graphic research
๐ฃ Assisting with the implementation of DGC's communications campaigns, identifying and proposing information opportunities, activities and approaches while taking into account the topic and target audiences
๐ Assisting with the organization of events on the SDGs or Climate Action
๐ง Maintaining and updating media and subscription mailing lists

Who Can Apply
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience; however, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship is required. You will have to indicate which criterion you meet, attach proof to the application, and provide an official certificate at a later stage.
Required Skills
๐ป Be computer literate in standard software applications; knowledge of information management and design applications such as Trello and Canva is required
๐ ๏ธ Have knowledge of Office 365 tools, content management systems and website monitoring tools (especially Drupal and Google Analytics)

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship, and knowledge of an additional official UN language is desirable.

Funding and Visa
The United Nations does not financially remunerate interns. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. For internships in the United States of America, interns who are not United States citizens, permanent residents, or currently in the United States on a nonimmigrant visa status will be required to obtain a G-4 visa. If already in the United States on another non-immigrant visa status other than G-4, interns will be responsible for ensuring that they have a valid visa and, if required, employment authorization. Before resuming an internship, the applicant must submit proof of visa and/or work authorization. Applicants who have previously served six months in total as an intern in one or more UN Entities in the UN Secretariat cannot be engaged as an intern, and applicants who are children, siblings, or sons or daughters-in-law (including stepchildren, half-siblings, or stepsiblings) of an active staff member in a UN Secretariat cannot be engaged as an intern.
