The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) is offering a Communications Internship with its Liaison Office in Kuwait, supporting humanitarian engagement with the Government of Kuwait and partners.

About OCHA

OCHA is part of the United Nations Secretariat responsible for bringing together humanitarian actors to ensure a coherent response to emergencies, and for providing a framework within which each actor can contribute to the overall response. Its mission is to mobilize and coordinate effective and principled humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors to alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies, advocate the rights of people in need, promote preparedness and prevention, and facilitate sustainable solutions. OCHA Kuwait is part of the External Relations Section, within the Partnerships Branch of the Financing and Outreach Division, strengthening engagement with Member States, regional and intergovernmental organizations to sustain political and financial support for the multilateral humanitarian system.

What You'll Do

Under the guidance and direct supervision of the Humanitarian Affairs Officer in OCHA's Liaison Office in Kuwait, the intern will support humanitarian engagement and communications activities:

๐Ÿ“ Support the development of communication products on humanitarian needs targeting specific audiences.

๐ŸŽช Assist in the planning of events organized or co-organized by OCHA in Kuwait.

๐Ÿ“ฑ Develop and disseminate social media material on OCHA Kuwait partnerships.

๐Ÿค Support the coordination of meetings and consultations with partners in the country.

๐Ÿ—’๏ธ Draft summaries, meeting minutes and reports, and perform other administrative work as required.

Who Can Apply

๐ŸŽ“ Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in communication and media or a related field.

๐Ÿ“˜ Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent) in communication and media.

No professional work experience is required, though experience in communications and media is desirable. Good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Teams, is required. The ability to draft news articles and social media posts, and to design surveys and polls, is desirable.

Languages

Fluency in reading, speaking, understanding and writing in both English and Arabic is required.

The Details

๐Ÿ“ Location: Kuwait (part time, in person).

๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Expected duration: 3 months, beginning at a mutually agreed start date.

๐Ÿ’ผ Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions, and non citizens or non residents may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorization.
