As a Policy Strategist, you will analyse economic policy developments of strategic importance, support the ESM's interactions with credit rating agencies, and contribute to key EU policy forums.

About the Organisation

The European Stability Mechanism (ESM) is the permanent crisis resolution mechanism for euro area countries, providing financial assistance to members facing financing difficulties. To date, the ESM and its predecessor, the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF), have launched six financial assistance programmes to five countries. The ESM is a unique place to work, with around 230 individuals committed to making a difference to the future of the euro area, and it recruits talented professionals of any nationality from both the private and public sectors.

You will work in the Policy Strategy and Institutional Relations division and report to its head.

Key Accountabilities

๐Ÿ“ˆ Contribute to workstreams related to the ESM's strategy on crisis prevention and resolution, and review ESM stability support instruments and processes

๐Ÿฆ Contribute to interactions with credit rating agencies, specifically for credit reviews of the ESM and the EFSF

๐Ÿ“Š Analyse credit rating developments in the sovereign and supranational sectors

๐Ÿค– Maintain rating-related reporting tools and develop new approaches using artificial intelligence

๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ Monitor and help analyse policy discussions and European Commission legislative proposals relevant for the ESM (such as the international role of the euro, safe assets, and EU instruments)

๐Ÿ“ Support ESM participation in EU forums by preparing analyses and briefings expressing the ESM stance for the Eurogroup, the Eurogroup Working Group, and the Economic and Financial Committee

๐Ÿ“‹ Prepare documents for consideration by ESM boards and committees

๐Ÿค Collaborate closely with colleagues in other divisions, and support the ESM's interactions with the European Commission, the European Central Bank, and the International Monetary Fund

Key Background and Experience

๐ŸŽ“ An advanced university degree, preferably in economics, finance, or another quantitative field

๐Ÿ’ผ At least two years of relevant professional experience; prior experience in credit ratings is an asset

๐Ÿ“‘ A first experience in translating policy decisions into concrete deliverables and preparing a policy stance is required

๐Ÿ“Š A good command of econometric and statistical programs

๐Ÿค– Strong proficiency and interest in the use of artificial intelligence

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Excellent oral and written English; additional languages are an asset
