If you are a mechanical engineering student fascinated by how materials behave under stress, this IAESTE research internship in the Czech Republic is a great hands-on opportunity. You will run uniaxial tensile tests on a miniature in-house device, process and analyse the data in MATLAB or Python, and contribute to the ongoing development of the testing machine within a lively academic environment.
About the Internship
Knowing the mechanical properties and characterisation of materials is essential in structural design and industrial applications. This internship focuses on uniaxial tensile testing using a miniature in-house device, followed by the processing and management of the resulting data.
The curves will be evaluated, filtered, or resized, and the yield stress and the ultimate tensile strength will be processed in MATLAB or Python. The machine is still being improved and is located in a large office of graduate students. Eventually, it will be necessary to adapt the design of the testing machine to the actual specimens and the needs of the partner academic institution. Samples will be provided by the Ternopil Ivan Puluj National Technical University in Ukraine, in the form of foils. The work will be carried out with the additional support of a PhD student.
