If you are a professional translator who works from English into Hungarian or Maltese and wants to bring your craft to the heart of European finance, the European Central Bank is hiring. In this 50% part-time role in Frankfurt, you will help communicate the ECB's work to millions of Europeans, translating texts on economics, finance, central banking, and banking supervision while working with state-of-the-art language technology.

About the Team

You will be part of the Language Services Division in the Directorate General Communications. Language Services provides translation, editing, proofreading, and language technology services in all EU languages, as well as offering advice on linguistic matters. The work covers a wide range of texts for both expert audiences and the general public, and includes translating publications and multilingual content for the ECB's websites to make the ECB's work accessible to a variety of audiences.

You will join a team of translators working into the official EU languages, responsible for communicating the ECB's messages to over 400 million Europeans who do not have English as their first language. You will help produce ECB communications in Hungarian or Maltese, working closely with translators, language technologists and terminologists, and administrators, as well as experts from across the ECB. You will also work with colleagues in cross-divisional teams handling strategic communication projects or urgent tasks.

Your Role

๐ŸŒ Translate texts from English into Hungarian or Maltese in the fields of economics, finance, central banking, and banking supervision

๐Ÿ” Revise and proofread texts written in Hungarian or Maltese

๐Ÿ“š Identify, extract, and compile terminology in Hungarian or Maltese

๐Ÿค– Work with state-of-the-art language technology tools, including machine translation, and maintain translation memories in Hungarian or Maltese

๐Ÿค Work collaboratively with other translators to produce ECB communications in Hungarian or Maltese

๐Ÿ’ก Contribute to the Language Services Division's overall strategy by providing ideas, embracing innovation, and being part of the evolution of the translation industry

Essential Qualifications, Experience and Skills

๐ŸŽ“ A master's degree or equivalent in translation, modern languages, or another relevant field

๐Ÿ’ผ A minimum of four years' experience as a professional translator working from English into Hungarian or Maltese in fields relevant to the position, such as economics, finance, central banking, or banking supervision

๐Ÿ› ๏ธ Experience with computer-assisted translation tools, AI-supported translation, and/or post-editing machine translation

๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ A mastery-level (C2) command of Hungarian or Maltese and an advanced (C1) command of English, according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

Desired Qualifications and Skills

๐Ÿ›๏ธ Experience as an in-house translator working from English into Hungarian or Maltese

๐ŸŒ An intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU
