KCAT Arts Centre

🔷 Activity Details

Description

KCAT Arts Centre is a multidisciplinary arts centre where artists with and without disabilities create alongside one another. It’s a place where an individual’s differences are celebrated, and creativity is nurtured. We’re a small but mighty Arts Centre in Callan, Co. Kilkenny, that’s been leading inclusive and accessible arts practice in Ireland for over 25 years. We have practicing visual artists in studio, a theatre group, and offer learning courses and open studio for artists in the community. KCAT Arts Centre has been hosting and coordinating volunteers through the EVS/ESC, since 2010. Volunteers support art facilitators and artists in our programmes and more. They bring life and fun into KCAT and enrich the social aspect of KCAT by sharing their own culture and language and learn all about Ireland and the people. We aim to recruit for 3 ESC volunteers, 1 for the KCAT Studio, 1 for Courses and Open Studio and 1 for the Equinox Theatre Group.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Volunteers will be offered a single room with a host family near KCAT in Callan. Living subsistence (pocket money and food allowance) provided.

Training during the activity

Each ESC volunteer has the support of a dedicated mentor and a supervisor. Beyond benefiting the host Services, young volunteers can develop new skills and improve their personal, educational and professional development. Volunteers can benefit from specific training throughout their activities and agree on their expected learning outcomes, processes and methods in advance. The ESC learning experience is formally recognised through a YouthPass. Access to 'Online Language Support', designed to help ESC participants improve their knowledge of the language in which they will volunteer, granted.

Participant profile

Generally enthusiastic and motivated to make the placement a success for all involved. Ideally interested and having some experience in art and / or theatre (obtained through training, voluntary work or hobby). To be able to live independent (in walking distance of KCAT). Able to take initiative under guidance. Motivation to specifically work in KCAT Arts Centre. Supply all necessary forms (CV, Motivation letter, Police Clearance, 3 references).
