Building Skills Brick by Brick | Erasmus+ TC, 13–20 June 2026, Novaci, Romania. Youth workers explore construction-based methods & non-formal education to boost creativity, teamwork & inclusion. Travel, food & stay covered. Apply now!

How can a handful of building blocks become a tool for transformation? That's the question at the heart of Building Skills Brick by Brick, an 8-day Erasmus+ training course designed for youth workers who want to bring creativity, play, and hands-on learning into their everyday practice.

This training explores how construction-based methods can be used as powerful instruments of non-formal education. Grounded in the principles of experiential learning and "learning by doing," the course invites participants to step away from theory and dive into activities where reflection, expression, and learning emerge naturally through making, building, and creating.

What participants will gain

Throughout the week, participants will:

  • Discover practical "learning by doing" methods they can use immediately in their work.
  • Experiment with facilitation exercises built around simple construction materials.
  • Learn how to adapt activities for diverse groups, including young people with fewer opportunities.
  • Master reflection and debriefing techniques that consolidate learning and help young people make sense of their experiences.
  • Design, test, and receive feedback on their own activities — leaving with concrete, transferable tools.

The training is built around seven clear objectives: developing facilitation competences, understanding experiential learning, using construction materials as educational tools, supporting key competence development (critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, communication, collaboration), promoting inclusion and active participation, creating transferable practical tools, and strengthening reflection and evaluation skills.

By the end of the course, youth workers will be better equipped to use creative and participatory methods to support the personal and social development of young people in their communities.

About the host: Scout Society

Scout Society is a Romanian NGO based in Târgu Jiu, working since 2011 to empower young people through non-formal education, intercultural learning, sport, digital inclusion, and environmental awareness. The organisation believes every individual deserves opportunities to grow, connect, and shape their own future — and works particularly hard to create inclusive spaces for young people from rural areas or facing economic, social, or educational obstacles.

The location: Novaci

The training takes place in Novaci, a charming mountain town in Gorj County, sitting at the foot of the Parâng Massif in the Carpathian Mountains. Novaci is a gateway to the Transalpina — Romania's highest road — and is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, pastoral heritage, and UNESCO-recognised tradition of transhumance. Participants can expect fresh mountain air, traditional Romanian cuisine, and an authentic cultural setting that perfectly complements a week of creative learning.

Accommodation & logistics

Participants will stay in a cosy mountain guesthouse with shared double rooms, private bathrooms, Wi-Fi, an outdoor space, and a pool (cold water — it's the mountains!). Three meals plus coffee breaks will be provided daily, with balanced international cuisine and meat-free options available. Participants are asked to bring their own towels, slippers, hygiene items, and reusable water bottle.

Who should apply?

This training is for you if you are:

  • At least 18 years old
  • A youth worker, youth leader, or community-active person with experience in educational or social initiatives
  • A resident of a partner country
  • Available for the full duration of the mobility
  • Comfortable with English at a medium level
  • Curious, open-minded, and proactive, ready to engage in a multicultural team
  • Willing to multiply the learning in your own community after the course
  • Funding & reimbursement

In line with Erasmus+ rules, accommodation and meals are fully covered. Travel costs are reimbursed based on the official distance band system, with green travel (train, bus, bicycle, car-pooling) attracting higher reimbursement rates. Participants must keep all original travel documents (tickets, boarding passes, receipts, invoices) and obtain approval before purchasing tickets.

Cultural night & community spirit

As is tradition in Erasmus+ projects, an Intercultural Evening will be part of the programme — an opportunity to share songs, stories, food, drinks, and traditions from your country, region, or personal culture. Creativity is highly encouraged!
