🇦🇱 ESC Volunteering in Albania 🏖️ Support a Children's Summer Camp by the Adriatic Sea & Make Every Day a Happy Day ☀️

DESCRIPTION

Are you ready for a meaningful volunteering experience by the sea? This ESC project takes place in Vlora, southern Albania, where volunteers will support the “Happy Day” summer camp for children aged 4–14, combining education with activities in nature. Volunteers will assist staff from Monday to Friday with meal preparation, water-based activities, and outdoor games, always under supervision. They will also help organise workshops and group activities, bringing their own creativity and ideas to enrich the daily programme. The role is to contribute to a positive, inclusive, and multicultural environment for children, promoting participation, cooperation, and social interaction while working alongside experienced staff. This experience offers the chance to develop teamwork, adaptability, and communication skills, connect with people from different backgrounds, and enjoy the natural beauty of the Albanian coast, with free time to relax or explore the surroundings.

ACCOMMODATION, FOOD AND TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS

Accommodation will be provided in shared dormitories, with up to 10 people per room in bunk beds, offering a simple and communal living experience. Food will be provided at the camp, inspired by Mediterranean cuisine, with options for vegetarian and vegan diets. The camp is located in a natural area close to the Adriatic Sea, about 10 minutes from Vlora, Albania. The nearest airport is Tirana airport (160 km). You will be accomodated in Tirana the first two days.

TRAINING DURING THE ACTIVITY

Before and during the activity, volunteers will receive orientation and support from Beyond Barriers Association staff, the local camp team and mentors. The training will cover cultural adaptation, teamwork, communication and safety, as well as practical guidance related to working with children in the summer camp setting. Volunteers will be prepared to support activities such as games, workshops, and outdoor initiatives, always under supervision. They will receive regular supervision and reflection moments to support their learning process and ensure a positive and meaningful experience.

PARTICIPANT PROFILE

- Responsible, caring, and patient when interacting with children - Able to work in a team and collaborate closely with staff - Comfortable in water and preferably able to swim (for supporting water-based activities) - Open-minded, respectful, and inclusive attitude towards diversity - Willing to engage in outdoor and physical activities - Creative and proactive, with readiness to contribute ideas for games and activities - Flexible and adaptable to a structured daily routine and shared living conditions - Positive attitude, enthusiasm, curiosity, and good team spirit - Willing to provide a criminal record certificate (background check) prior to participation (especially since working with minors is included!)
