DESCRIPTION

The role of the volunteer is: Enhance student engagement in social and cultural activities Support sustainability and community-driven initiatives The volunteer will work at the school’s office, which is located in the village community center. By acting as a link between students and the local community, the volunteer strengthens student engagement in Flateyri’s social and cultural life. Support in breakfast preparation Encourage teamwork and shared responsibility in daily routines. After-School Activities: plan, organize, and lead extracurricular activities such as creative workshops, outdoor excursions, and social events. - Work with students to develop and implement their own ideas for activities and gatherings. Event Organizing Additionally, the ESC volunteer will be an active member of the school community.

ACCOMMODATION, FOOD AND TRANSPORT ARRANGEMENTS

The Volunteer will have a room in Dvaló, with a bathroom and a kitchen shared with the students of the Folk College. The volunteer will have breakfast and lunch during teaching days (Monday to Friday) but will need to provide himself dinner on weekdays and all food for weekends. A round-trip flight ticket will be refunded by AFS á Íslandi at the time of arrival in the host community (arrival) and after the mobility (return), subject to the availability of an Icelandic bank account. Transportation from the capital area to the hosting community takes place in carpooling, bus or domestic flight.


TRAINING DURING THE ACTIVITY

Volunteers are required to take part in a pre-departure and post-arrival training with the Sending Organisation, as well as to attend all training provided by the National Agency during the Project. Additionally, the ESC Volunteer is required to take part in a mandatory Global Competences Certificate through AFS á Íslandi (Leading Organisation), which is composed by asynchronous modules to be completed before one of the four Live Sessions - one before departure, two during the Project and one after the end of the Project.

Good communication and social skills, both in relation to the project and teamwork; Basic knowledge about volunteerism, active citizenship, intercultural learning and training; Motivation for staying in the Westfjörd for 9 months, learning Icelandic, working at the office of Flateyri Folk School, delivering training, supporting the school's logistical operation, etc. Very good spoken and written English; Presentation skills
