๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ญ UN Internship in Switzerland ๐Ÿ“ฌ Account Management Support Intern ๐ŸŒ Postal Technology & IT, Universal Postal Union, Bern ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ญ

The Universal Postal Union (UPU) โ€” the United Nations' specialised agency for international postal cooperation, headquartered in Bern โ€” is seeking a technically skilled intern to support its Postal Technology Centre Directorate. You'll work alongside Technical Account Managers to assist the postal operators of 191 UN member countries in implementing UPU software applications, testing APIs, and maintaining communications on products and services. This is an unpaid internship based in Bern, Switzerland, with a very tight application deadline.

๐ŸŒ Did You Know? The Universal Postal Union, founded in 1874, is one of the oldest intergovernmental organisations in the world โ€” predating even the League of Nations. It established the principle that every person on Earth has the right to send and receive mail across international borders, creating a single global postal territory from 191 member countries. Today, its technology platforms power international mail tracking, customs declarations, and digital postal services worldwide.

What Will You Do?

๐Ÿ“ง Assist Technical Account Managers (TAMs) in communications with Designated Operators (DOs) of UPU member countries โ€” via email, conference calls, and on-site meetings
๐Ÿ“ฌ Provide DOs with technical information on UPU products and services
๐Ÿ”ง Test application programming interfaces (APIs) and application functions developed by the UPU as part of DO implementation projects
๐Ÿ–ฅ๏ธ Support the implementation of UPU software applications including the International Postal System (IPS) and Customs Declaration System (CDS)
๐ŸŒ Coordinate and support remote and on-site missions for software upgrades and training across member countries
๐ŸŒ Did You Know? Bern is one of Europe's most beautifully preserved medieval cities โ€” a UNESCO World Heritage Site with over 6 kilometres of covered arcades, a functioning 15th-century clock tower, and a remarkable old town built almost entirely of sandstone. As Switzerland's federal capital and home to numerous international organisations, it offers a uniquely rich environment for anyone interested in diplomacy, technology, and global governance.

Who Can Apply?

๐ŸŽ“ Bachelor of Science or equivalent in Information Technology or a related field โ€” currently enrolled in the final stages of study, or a recent graduate within six months of graduation
๐Ÿ’ป Good knowledge of APIs, web services, and Microsoft SQL Server โ€” including configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting
๐Ÿ“ฌ Knowledge of the UPU's International Postal System (IPS) and Customs Declaration System (CDS) applications is an advantage
๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ Proficiency in English at UN level II is mandatory โ€” French at UN level II is a strong advantage
โš ๏ธ Non-citizens or non-permanent residents of Switzerland may need to obtain a visa and work authorisation โ€” discuss this with the hiring team before accepting any offer
