Over 535 elected members of Congress are supported by thousands of staff, researchers, and policy professionals who shape legislation affecting global security, trade, diplomacy, and human rights. Think tanks like CSIS play a critical role in this ecosystem, translating complex research into actionable policy guidance for lawmakers.
What Will You Do?
✍️ Draft and copyedit official correspondence on behalf of the Congressional Affairs team
🎙️ Assist with event preparation and staffing for both public and private CSIS briefings and events
🔬 Support programme research and analysis of congressional activities and legislative developments
📋 Track relevant congressional actions, hearings, and legislation on key foreign and security policy issues
🗂️ Support long-term projects including background research, proposal writing, and data gathering
📬 Draft and format programme mailings and maintain the accuracy of mailing lists
🤝 Provide general administrative support to the full Congressional Affairs team

Who Can Apply?
🎓 Currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in a relevant field
✍️ Excellent research, writing, and copyediting skills — able to communicate clearly and concisely in both written and verbal form
⚡ A self-starter who thrives in fast-paced, dynamic environments and can manage multiple tasks simultaneously with strong attention to detail
🤝 Strong interpersonal skills and a genuine willingness to work collaboratively as part of a team
🌍 General knowledge of international affairs and an interest in U.S. Congressional and government processes
💡 Able to exercise professional judgment, sensitivity, and creativity in response to changing needs and situations
📊 Experience with Excel, database management, or email marketing platforms is desirable
🏛️ Political or nonprofit experience is a plus
⚖️ Must be legally eligible to work in the United States
Compensation
💵 $18.00/hour — current undergraduate students
💵 $19.00/hour — candidates holding a bachelor's degree
💵 $20.00/hour — candidates holding a master's degree
