Nestled in the rolling countryside of the Périgord Ribéracois in southwest France, this European Solidarity Corps opportunity welcomes four volunteers to bring Europe to life for children and teenagers in a rural community far from the usual ESC destinations. From intercultural meals and language cafés to working with young people at schools and youth centres — and even supervising seaside camps — this is a richly varied, deeply human volunteering experience. A driving licence is required.
🌍 Did You Know? Ribérac is a small market town in the Dordogne department of southwestern France — a region famous for its prehistoric cave paintings, medieval châteaux, and rich gastronomy including truffles, foie gras, and Périgord walnuts. The Périgord Ribéracois area is sometimes called "Little England" due to its long history of British residents, making it a genuinely multicultural corner of rural France.
What Will You Do?
🧒 Work with teenagers aged 10 to 18 through activities and interventions at a college, high school, family centre, and rural youth home
🏕️ Supervise and support camping trips at the seaside as part of youth activities
🍽️ Organise intercultural meals to present your own culture, cuisine, and traditions to the local community
🗣️ Facilitate a monthly linguistic café — a relaxed space for local people to practice and speak foreign languages
🌍 Participate in organising events focused on mobility and European awareness for young people
🚗 Travel across the rural area using the two shared cars available to volunteers — a driving licence is essential for this role
🌍 Did You Know? Rural areas across Europe are often underserved when it comes to intercultural experiences and European awareness programmes. ESC volunteers placed in rural communities play a uniquely powerful role — they become living ambassadors of European diversity, often being the first direct contact local young people have with someone from another country.
Who Can Apply?
🎂 Aged 18 to 30 and residing in one of the eligible ESC countries
🚗 Valid driving licence is mandatory — there is no public transport in the area
😊 Smiling, dynamic, and sociable — genuinely comfortable working with young people
🌍 Eager to share your culture, language, and traditions with others
🍳 Enjoys cooking — intercultural meals are a key part of the volunteering activities
🧭 Adaptable, curious, and not afraid to take initiative or connect with new people
💪 Serious, motivated, and ready for a full year of meaningful community engagement
Accommodation, Food & Travel
🏠 Large shared house where each volunteer has their own private room — shared living room, kitchen, two bathrooms, and a large garden
🚗 Two cars available for all four volunteers to use throughout the mission — essential given the absence of public transport
🚲 Bikes also available for shorter trips
🍽️ Monthly food allowance provided — volunteers manage their own meals
💶 Monthly pocket money provided in line with ESC rules
✈️ Travel costs covered in line with ESC programme rules

🎓 On-arrival seminar organised by the French National Agency
