The UN Office of the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict (OSRSG-CAAC) is looking for a Political Affairs Intern to join its Analysis and Outreach Hub in Doha, Qatar. The role involves research, stakeholder engagement, communications support, and contributing to advocacy and outreach on one of the most critical humanitarian mandates in the UN system. What Will You Do?
🔬Conduct research and reference searches on political, security, and humanitarian issues related to the children and armed conflict mandate
🤝Participate in meetings with stakeholders and contribute to collaborative projects and initiatives connected to the OSRSG-CAAC mandate
📝Attend conferences and meetings, take notes, and help service these events logistically and administratively
📣Assist in preparing communication materials — presentations, newsletters, website content, and social media posts — for advocacy and outreach campaigns
📰Monitor news articles, press releases, and social media platforms and share relevant developments with the team in a timely way
📋Support the preparation of reports, concept papers, policy documents, talking points, articles, and other substantive materials as needed
💡 Did You Know? The mandate of the SRSG for Children and Armed Conflict was established by the UN General Assembly in 1996 following a landmark report on the impact of war on children. Today, the office monitors and reports on grave violations against children in over 20 conflict situations worldwide — including recruitment of child soldiers, killing and maiming, sexual violence, and attacks on schools and hospitals.
Eligibility & Requirements
🎓You are enrolled in or have completed a graduate programme (master's level or higher) — OR you are in the final year of a first university degree (bachelor's level or equivalent)
🗣️You are fluent in both English and Arabic — these are the required working languages for this specific position
💻You are computer literate in standard software including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Teams or equivalent tools
🌍You can demonstrate a genuine interest in the work of the United Nations and a commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter
🤝You are able to work effectively with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds — with openness, tolerance, and willingness to engage with different perspectives
📋No professional work experience is required to apply — academic background and motivation are the primary criteria
Practical Information
💰This internship is unpaid — the United Nations does not financially remunerate interns. All costs related to travel, visa, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the intern or their sponsoring institution
🕐Full-time, in-person position — 35 hours per week, based in Doha, Qatar
🛂Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of Qatar may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work authorisation — discuss visa requirements with the office before accepting any offer
