๐ About the Training
This Erasmus+ Training Course, organised by SALTO Inclusion & Diversity and SALTO Participation & Information, will take place in Romania ๐ท๐ด and focuses on strengthening inclusive democratic participation of young people with fewer opportunities.
Although youth participation is strongly promoted within Erasmus+ and ESC, many young people facing social, economic, cultural, geographic, or educational barriers remain underrepresented in democratic processes. This course aims to equip youth workers, trainers, and practitioners with practical tools and competences to design and facilitate inclusive, accessible, and meaningful democratic participation processes.
This training is part of a long-term strategic initiative on inclusive democratic participation.
๐ณ What Do We Mean by Democratic Participation?
Democratic participation goes far beyond voting. It includes all ways young people can influence decisions and shape their communities.
In youth work practice, this can mean:
โจ Co-designing projects and activities
โจ Participating in youth councils and consultations
โจ Engaging in advocacy and community campaigns
โจ Using digital tools, storytelling, and arts to express views
โจ Taking part in civic dialogue with decision-makers
โจ Participatory budgeting and shared governance
โจ Everyday shared decision-making within youth groups
๐ฏ Aims and Objectives
โจ Increase understanding of barriers faced by young people with fewer opportunities
โจ Explore and practice tools and methodologies for inclusive democratic participation
โจ Strengthen competences to address participation barriers
โจ Create peer learning and international exchange
โจ Support long-term integration of inclusive approaches into daily youth work
Participants are expected not only to benefit individually but to transfer and adapt tools within their organisations and local contexts after the course.
๐ Themes and Methodology
The course builds on a webinar series (FebruaryโMay 2026) addressing inclusion in democratic participation, including:
